The Monterey County Office of Education is pleased to invite school districts to participate in the MCOE 2018 Teacher of the Year and 2017 Classified School Employee of the Year Programs to recognize and honor the dedicated teachers and classified employees throughout Monterey County.
Teacher of the Year Program
The purpose of the Teacher of the Year Program is to honor the teaching profession and outstanding teachers who successfully employ strategies to increase academic success and narrow the achievement gap with a range of diverse students. Each district may forward one nominee to the Monterey County Teacher of the Year Program.
Classified School Employee of the Year Program
Classified employees play vital roles in the education of students and are integral to public education. The CSEYP highlights the contributions of classified school employees who support the education of California’s public school students in preschool through grade 12.
There are six categories of classified employees who will be recognized in both the Monterey County and State recognition programs.
District may nominate one employee for each category. Categories include: Child Nutrition; Maintenance, Operations and Facilities; Office and Technical; Para-Educator and Instructional Assistance; Support Services and Security; and Transportation.
Each participating school district and charter school conducts its own local Teacher of the Year Program and Classified School Employee of the Year Programs, following its own internal process, and forwards nominees to the MCOE 2018 Teacher of the Year and 2017 Classified Employee of the Year Programs.
MCOE will conduct a selection process, and all nominees will be honored locally at a spring event. One teacher will be named Monterey County Teacher of the Year. This teacher will serve as the County’s representative to the 2018 California Teacher of the Year Program. Six exemplary classified school employees throughout Monterey County will move forward for consideration in the California Department of Education’s Classified School Employee of the Year Program.
Submissions should be sent to Cindy Altemeyer, Senior Director - Human Resources, via email to firstname.lastname@example.org or regular mail to P.O. Box 80851, Salinas, CA 93912.
