SALINAS, CA – The 47th annual Mathletics Competition, previously scheduled at Seaside High School, will instead take place at the Monterey County Office of Education, 901 Blanco Circle in Salinas, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 2.

Teams from 48 Monterey County public and private schools, made up of nearly 400 students from upper elementary, middle and high schools, will compete in the event.  Mathletics is a math contest held annually to encourage excellence in math and recognize the achievements of individual students and the schools they represent.  The Monterey County Office of Education and California State University, Monterey Bay Mathematics Department sponsor the annual event.

The top graduating high school senior taking the advanced calculus exam will receive the Richard Morgantini Scholarship of $1,000.  First, second, and third place winners in each level will receive Amazon gift cards, gift certificates and an Olympic-sized first, second or third place medal.

Mathletics is funded in part by long-time supporter, the Monterey County Richard Morgantini Foundation, as well as Green Giant by Growers Express, and the California Mathematics Council-Monterey Bay affiliate.

Media are encouraged to attend.  Please contact Linda Dilger at (831) 224-6292 for the event schedule.
