MCOE and Chevron Partner for STEM Camp in South Monterey County
Salinas, CA -- What do you get when you combine action heroes, crime scene forensics, and a hit reality show? You get STEM Camp, a 3-day summer learning program that will be held June 17-19 at San Ardo Elementary School.
During the camp, students in grades 3-8 will get hands-on experience in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), using methods and concepts that are often seen in movies and television shows.
Students will explore forensic earth science while using a survey grid and magnifying glasses. They will learn about buoyancy and propulsion by racing balloon-powered boats and launching rockets made from 2 liter bottles. They will even learn various knot tying skills.
STEM camp is funded through a donation by Chevron, in partnership with the Monterey County Office of Education, and school districts in South Monterey County. Chevron’s donation is part of its initiative to invest in education in areas where the company has operations.
