Charter School Oversight

Monterey County Board of Education is the chartering authority for the following charter schools:

  • Bay View Academy (BVA) (Grades K-5) is a public, independent charter school that opened its doors in 2011.  BVA is free and open to all students.
  • Millennium Charter High School (Grades 9-10), first day of school was on August 26, 2013.  Millennium Charter High School is located at the Monterey County Office of Education.  The Millennium Charter High School is a countywide charter high school which will focus on digital media and the arts.
  • Monterey Bay Charter School (Grades K-8) is Site Based Instruction - the charter type is a “start-up” charter and the funding mode is direct. Another description for this charter is Waldorf Methods Charter
  • Monterey County Home Charter School (Grades K-12) is an Independent Study Charter, the charter type is a “conversion” charter and the funding is direct. Another description for this charter is Home Independent Study.
