Leadership, Support and Service to Prepare All Students for Success

Dr. Nancy Kotowski, County Superintendent of Schools

Wordle-Math.pngThe MCOE Educational Services website is intended to provide support to the Monterey county teachers, schools and districts in the development and implementation of math programs that are aligned with California Mathematics Content Standards and the California Standards for the Teaching Profession. We will be continuously adding information, resources and tutorials of value. We invite you to bookmark this site so that you can return periodically to see what's new.

MCMI Follow-up Letter With Dates

The Common Core State Standards for Mathematics are divided into K-5, middle school, and high school. In K-5, the standards provide students with a solid basis of math skills, and progress into applications as they advance through the grade levels.  The middle school standards focus on the math skills students will need in high school. In high school, students are required to practice reasoning and thinking mathematically in situations that career, college, and real life will demand.

Training Modules

Professional Learning Modules: Professional learning modules developed by California teachers and other experts provide strategies and resources.

The following module topics will be completed by September 2012:

Charles A. Dana Center

The Dana Center collaborates with local and national entities to improve education systems so that they foster opportunity for all students, particularly in mathematics and science. The center offers resources, tools, instructional materials and services to support educators in implementing the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics. “The Mathematics Common Core Toolkit,” is one of many tools available

Common Core Tools

This website is Bill McCallum’s blog site for mathematics, including resources, updates and reports on projects to support the implementation of the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics.

Illustrative Mathematics

This resource provides guidance to states, assessment consortia, testing companies, and curriculum developers by illustrating the range and types of mathematical work that students experience in a faithful implementation of the Common Core State Standards, and by publishing other tools that support implementation of the standards.

Inside Mathematics

This site provides a resource for educators who struggle to provide the best mathematics instruction they can for their students. Resources include demonstration lesson, mathematics learning tools and resources to support classroom teachers, coaches and administrators’ daily practices.

Among the resources on this site, there is a Common Core Toolkit, a 48-page guide available as a free download or in hard copy for a nominal fee.

The Shell Centre

The Shell Centre is known around the world for its innovative work on mathematics education, including mathematics performance assessments developed by the Mathematics Assessment Project (MAP). MAP is a collaboration between the University of California, Berkeley and the Shell Center team at the University of Nottingham, with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The team works with the Silicon Valley Mathematics Initiative and school systems across the US and UK to develop improved assessment. The link to MAP is
