Program Vision Statement

All migrant students can be successful, be proud of who they are, and be positive contributors to society.

Program Mission Statement

The mission of the Migrant Education Program Region 16 is to ensure that all migrant students experience a high-quality education and improved way of life.

The program accomplishes its mission by:

  • Providing direct student services that support migrant students achieve academic success and gain support of social and health services,
  • Ensuring that Migrant parents understand the educational system and have the capacity to be actively engaged in the education of their children at home and at school,
  • Providing technical assistance and professional development to all educational professionals who work with Migrant students, and
  • Ensuring that the program meet state and federal compliance by monitoring program effectiveness and appropriate use of migrant funds

2015-2016 Program Achievements:

  • Increase of 4.4 percent in number of migrant students who graduated from high school from 75% in 2013-14 to 79.4% in 2014-15.
  • Increased number of College and Career Readiness Programs by establishing relationship with Google and Microsoft- 32 high school students traveled to Seattle Washington to experience the Microsoft Headquarters and learn about careers in technology
  • Established Saturday Technology Academy in collaboration with Hartnell College- 120 3rd through 12th grade students (NASA, Coding, Robotics)
  • Completed a Comprehensive Needs Assessment to inform the state strategic plan for migrant students
  • Coordinated a regional parent conference with 4 rotating workshops in the areas of college and career readiness, emergency preparedness, financial planning, and parenting strategies. (Increased attendance from 120 parents in 2015 to 250 parents in 2016)
  • Coordinated 40 parent engagement sessions in collaboration with Community Human Services. Ten sessions in King City, ten sessions in Greenfield, ten sessions in Chualar and ten sessions in Salinas (average attendance 25 parents).
  • Remained the largest migrant region in the state with 12,855 migrant students identified.
  • Best represented region at 2016 state parent conference with two parent presentations.
  • Best represented region at 2016 National Migrant Conference with three presentations.
  • Identified as a model region by the department of education for Speech and Debate Program, Summer Residential Programs, Pre School Bi-literacy Program, and Field and Community Recruitment.
  • Was the first region in the state to submit the 2016-2017 Regional Application- submitted 374 page document one week before the deadline.
